Wayne Hussey chronicles The Mission’s final gig with ‘Live & Last’

The Mission, 'Live & Last'

Frontman Wayne Hussey retired The Mission — aka The Mission UK on these shores — a year ago with a series of album-spanning gigs in London, the highlights of which are captured on the new two-disc Live & Last, which arrives in the U.S. on April 14.

The set’s first disc features 15 songs recorded at the band’s final show, on March 1, 2008, at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire. The second disc includes four bonus tracks recorded a few weeks earlier in Germany, plus an interview.

Live & Last follows the February releases, in Europe, of Gods Own Medicine: Live, First Chapter: Live, Children: Live and Carved In Sand: Live, each capturing one night of the farewell stand, during which the band played those four albums in their entirety.

Hussey, now having retired the Mission twice, is vowing to press on with a solo career. Last year he released Bare, which included stripped-down takes on some Mission tracks as well as covers of U2 (“With Or Without You”), The Cure (“A Night Like This”) and The Beach Boys (“God Only Knows”).
