Video: Depeche Mode draw 12,000 for ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ performance

Depeche Mode in Hollywood

It wasn’t quite on the scale of 1990’s near-riot, but some 12,000 Depeche Mode fans descended on Hollywood and Vine yesterday — some lining up for hours — to catch the electro legends’ performance for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Marking this week’s release of Sounds of the Universe, the band played a seven-song set, mixing new tracks such as “Wrong” and “Peace” with classics like “Enjoy the  Silence” and “Never Let Me Down Again” (full setlist below).

Two of the performances — current single “Wrong” and “Personal Jesus” — were aired last night on Kimmel’s show (see video below).

Scott Igoe, the late-night show’s music booker, told Rolling Stone the DM gig “was the biggest outdoor concert we’ve ever done.”

“There’s no doubt Depeche Mode has a strong and loyal following in Los Angeles,” Igoe said. “We gave away 10,000 wristbands in one day and estimate a good 2,000 more people just showed up. You could see and hear Dave Gahan from five blocks away!”
