Sick again, Morrissey cancels U.K. concerts, ‘Jools Holland’ appearance

Illness-prone Morrissey, who canceled six dates at the beginning and end of the U.S. leg of his current “Tour of Refusal,” this week bagged two U.K. shows and an appearance on “Later Live… With Jools Holland.”

The sick singer canceled Monday’s show at London’s Royal Albert Hall and tonight’s Symphony Hall gig in Birmingham. He also had been slated to appear on ‘Jools Holland’ on Tuesday.

According to his Web site, “He is unable to perform and on doctor’s orders has been told to rest.”

Organizers are attempting to reschedule both shows, according to Moz’s site.

Morrissey’s current tour got off to a shaky start after health problems forced  him to cancel five of the first seven U.S. dates of the trek in late February and early March.

Then, during his appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival last month, he claimed nearby barbecues were nauseating him: “The smell of burning animals is making me sick. I just couldn’t bear it,” he told the audience. The ex-Smith canceled the next night’s tour-closing  show at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, Calif.

As one fan noted, perhaps this should be called “Tour of Refusal to Turn Up.”

Moz’s next scheduled concert, for now, is Friday at Brittania Pier in Great Yarmouth.
