Through his art, John Squire firmly denies reports of a Stone Roses reunion

Guitarist John Squire has firmly laid rumors of an impending Stone Roses reunion to rest via his medium of choice these days: art.

On a piece of artwork posted to his Web site, Squire writes: “I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the grave of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses.”

The creation, posted Wednesday, follows a similar denial, in the Daily Mail, by a spokesperson for ex-Roses frontman Ian Brown: “We know nothing about a reunion. Ian is working on his new studio album which is due out later this year.”

Earlier this week, London’s Daily Mirror reported that the Roses would reunite for “at least 21 gigs” in the UK this summer, as well as a possible slot at April’s Coachella festival in California.

The Daily Mirror had reported that Squire, bassist Gary “Mani” Mounfield and drummer Alan “Reni” Wren finally had convinced their former vocalist to reunite the legendary Madchester band.

“It’s taken a lot of time to get Ian to agree,” the paper quoted its source, “but he’s finally signed on the dotted line. The rest of the band were really up for it, especially when they realized the amount of money on the table.”

With Squire definitively weighing in, it only leaves one question left unanswered: But what about The Seahorses?
