The Damned cancels U.S. tour after failing to obtain visas for October concerts

The Damned, circa 2008

Punk-era survivors The Damned abruptly scuttled their upcoming U.S. tour today — the eve of the trek’s opening night in Cleveland — citing immigration issues that prevent the band from entering the country.

It’s the second time this year the Damned has scrapped U.S. concerts; in December, the band announced it was canceling its New Year’s Eve show in New York City and several January concerts on the East Coast due to “severe illness.”

As for this month’s U.S. dates, the Damned reports on its Web site: “As of today, the band’s U.S. visas were still not approved, thus forcing the immediate cancellation of the entire tour.” The nine-date trek would have kept the band in the U.S. through Nov. 1 (see canceled dates below).

The band adds:

“We are devastated to be disappointing our fans in the U.S. who wished to see us on this tour, and sympathize with all those who have made travel arrangements and other commitments.”

The current incarnation of the Damned — which played a string of European dates in September and is slated to open Motorhead’s UK tour in November — features original members Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible, in addition to Stu West, Pinch and Monty Oxymoron. The group’s most recent album, So, Who’s Paranoid?, was released last year.

  1. They should have just come in illegally like the other 15 million. Oh yeah, that’s right, they are actually law-abiding working people.

  2. Somehow, Morrissey must be at fault.

  3. Bummer, had my ticket for the Bluebird show in Denver :o(
