Dave Gahan rushed to Greek hospital; Depeche Mode cancel 2 concerts

Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan

Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan was rushed to a Greek hospital yesterday just minutes before taking the stage in Athens, forcing the band to cancel that concert and Thursday night’s performance in Istanbul, Turkey.

The band’s Web site only describe’s Gahan as having suffered “the sudden feeling of physical discomfort,” and the Associated Press reports that “neither organizers nor the hosptial would say what he was suffering from.”

The Athens Free Press, however, reports that Gahan “was taken to a private clinic with suspected gastroenteritis,” aka the stomach flu.

The band’s next scheduled stop on it just-underway Tour of the Universe is now Saturday in Bucharest, Romania.

DM’s cancellations follow news that fellow ’80s survivor Morrissey has postponed more shows due to illness on his own trouble-plagued tour.
