Free download: Pixies’ ‘Doolittle’ tour live EP

Pixies on Twitter

Midway through the band’s concert in Los Angeles tonight, the Pixies slipped fans a treat via Twitter and Facebook: a free, four-song downloadable live EP of tracks recorded during its ongoing Doolittle 20th anniversary tour.

The band’s Doolittle 20th Anniversary Live Sampler features 320 kbps MP3s of “Dancing the Manta Ray” (a “Monkey Gone to Heaven” B-side), “Monkey Gone to Heaven,” “Crackity Jones” and “Gouge Away.” According to guitarist Joey Santiago, the tracks were recorded at the band’s Oct. 16 gig in Paris.

Having conquered Europe last month, Black Francis and Co. opened the U.S. leg of their Doolittle tour last night in L.A., and will play across the U.S. through Dec. 1, and then resume the trek in March in Australia and New Zealand.

  3. Thanks for the download link. You made my night. Ah, the Pixies… Ah, youth. I remember seeing them two nights in a row back in the nineties. One night in a college gym, the next night opening for U2 on the ZooTV tour. By happenstance I got tickets 5 rows from the front at the U2 gig and I remember being the only one standing up and singing as they played, thinking to myself: “Why the hell is everyone sitting down.” Frank and crew belted them out still and it was glorious. One of those moments that you know will be a lasting memory as you experience it.
This band is high up there with me.

  4. I, too, saw the Pixies open for U2 on the ZOO TV tour. And yeah, same deal: Great set, nobody cared. A real shame.

  5. I hear you guys. Wish I could’ve been there! A lot of folks wouldn’t claim to know art if it punched them in the throat. It seems like it takes a mob of marketers to beat it into people.

@Mo – Glad you were standing up. Next time we’re on tour will you catch one of our shows? :)

  7. Download still works! Thanks a ton, hard drive got wiped, and thought I had lost these great songs when I couldn’t find the old email, or them on the Pixies website any longer.
