The Cure, Pixies, U2, Morrissey, Depeche Mode top list of most-viewed stories of 2009

As we start a new year, it’s worth one last look back at 2009, the inaugural year for Slicing Up Eyeballs. This site launched Feb. 20, so we don’t yet have a full year of data — although there were 396 posts during that period. Listed below are the top 10 most-viewed stories of the year, a list that’s quite different from a similar rundown we posted at the six-month mark — which makes sense, given that traffic began increasing significantly at the end of summer, and continues to grow nicely.

  1. The Cure’s ‘Disintegration’ gets 3CD deluxe reissue in 2010 (Oct. 3)
  2. Gift idea: Vans’ ‘Death to the Pixies’ shoes (Nov. 23)
  3. U2 plays ‘Unforgettable Fire’ outtake ‘Disappearing Act’ on BBC (Aug. 21)
  4. Morrissey: Don’t buy my new box sets — I’m not making money off them (Aug. 8)
  5. Rhino Records gutted by layoffs; future of The Cure’s reissues in doubt? (Sept. 24)
  6. Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch diagnosed with cancer; trio delays album (July 20)
  7. John Peel box set features rare tracks by The Cure, Elvis Costello (Sept. 21)
  8. Free download: Pixies’ ‘Doolittle’ tour live EP (Nov. 5)
  9. Video: ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic sings ‘I Bleed’ with 3/4ths of Pixies (Dec. 9)
