Sonic Youth plots mini-tour of U.S. southwest

Sonic Youth

Nearing the end of its summer tour of the U.S., Sonic Youth this week announced a seven-date “southwest mini-tour” this fall as it extends its promotion of its new album The Eternal deeper into California, Arizona and Texas.

The band — which also tacked on a final date to its summer trek on Monday in San Francisco — has spent the past month playing U.S. club dates in support of its Matador Records debut. Following those concerts, Sonic Youth will take most of August and September off, save for a couple Japanese festival dates in Osaka and Tokyo.

Then, beginning Sept. 25 in Pomona, Calif., the southwestern trek opens, running through Oct. 4, when the band plays a slot at the Austin City Limits Music Festival.
