RELEASE: Raw Power: Legacy Edition
BACKSTORY: The Stooges’ hugely influential 1973 proto-punk classic receives a 2CD reissue this week, with one disc featuring David Bowie’s original mix (rather than the new mix by Iggy Pop that was used on the ’97 reissue) and a second disc loaded with studio outtakes and live tracks recorded in Atlanta in October 1973.

R.E.M., 'Chronic Town'ARTIST: R.E.M.
RELEASE: Chronic Town
BACKSTORY: Michael Stipe and Co. this Saturday reissue their long-out-of-print 1982 debut EP on limited-edition clear blue vinyl as part of the third-annual Record Store Day. It appears the 12-inch only will be sold at participating independent record stores (link to list below); see a list of other Record Store Day exclusives here.

Sonic Youth, 'EVOL'ARTIST: Sonic Youth
RELEASES: Confusion is Sex, EVOL, Hits Are for Squares
BACKSTORY: Again as part of Record Store Day, the New York noise-rockers on Saturday reissue their 1983 and ’86 albums Confusion is Sex and EVOL on white and pink vinyl, respectively, plus issue their rare 2008 Starbucks comp Hits Are for Squares on vinyl for the first time; the first two reissues, at least, are available online.

RELEASE: Duty Now for the Future
BACKSTORY: The nerd-rockers’ second album, originally released in 1979, is reissued on both CD and vinyl on Saturday as part of Record Store Day (but isn’t limited to participating shops). The remastered album is supplemented by singles, B-sides and live tracks.

Revolting Cocks, 'Got Cock?'ARTIST: Revolting Cocks
RELEASES: Got Cock?
BACKSTORY: The long-running industrial/metal act returns with its sixth studio album, once again produced by Ministry mastermind Al Jourgensen (who recently built a new RevCo studio and touring lineup that he no longer plays in). The 11-track disc features a cover (and remix) of 2 Live Crew’s classic “Me So Horny.”

Hurrah!, 'The Lost Album'ARTIST: Hurrah!
RELEASES: The Lost Album
BACKSTORY: Cherry Red Records completes its reissues of the near-forgotten British indie-pop act’s admittedly limited catalog with this previously unreleased album, a nine-track set featuring new artwork and liner notes that include a new interview with founding member Paul Handyside about the collection.
