Record Store Day vinyl from R.E.M., Sonic Youth, Ramones, Factory Records

Record Store Day 2010

Start saving up: The third-annual Record Store Day is less than a month away, and the organizers of the event have posted the list of this year’s special tie-in releases, which include a reissue of Rhino’s 4LP Joy Division vinyl box set, a blue-vinyl reissue of R.E.M.’s Chronic Town and fresh vinyl reissues from Sonic Youth, The Clash’s Joe Strummer and the Ramones.

Set for April 17, Record Store Day celebrates independent music shops in the U.S., with dozens of stores participating around the nation — and more and more artists and record labels pressing up special (mostly) vinyl releases for the big day, some of which can only be purchased at a participating store on the day itself.

In addition to big names like Dave Matthews and Bruce Springsteen, this year’s haul, as usual, includes a number of college rock vets, including Devo (reissue of 1979’s Duty Now for the Future, plus a new single), Elvis Costello and the Attractions (reissue of 1979’s Live at Hollywood High EP) and the Beastie Boys (a “super surprise” white label 12-inch).

Over in the UK, shops also are participating in Record Store Day, but they’ve got a different list of special releases, including titles from Jesus and Mary Chain (reissues of the “Just Like Honey” and “You Trip Me Up” 7-inches), Paul Weller (a remix 12-inch), a Factory Records sampler and a special pressing of The Stone Roses.

  1. Love to get a copy of Chronic Town and maybe duty now, if the bonus cuts are any good.
