Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy sets ‘Dirty Dirt Tour’ summer dates in Europe, U.K. and Canada

Peter Murphy of Bauhaus

Despite persistent rumors of ill health, Peter Murphy this week announced 10 concerts in the U.K., Europe and Canada in late July and August as part of what he’s calling the Dirty Dirt Tour — with additional dates expected.

To make matters more confusing, the venue hosting the first announced date of the tour, Paris’ La Machine Du Moulin Rouge, previously had advertised the show as “Peter Murphy Plays Bauhaus,” although the concert now is not listed on the club’s calendar.

At the moment, the tour — which includes headlining dates and festival appearances — begins with that Paris show on July 29 and stops in Portugal before six dates in the U.K. and two concerts in Ontario, Canada, on Aug. 8 and 10 (see full dates below). Murphy’s official site reports that Lettie will open the London and Paris concerts, and “additional dates and information will be posted as it is confirmed.”

The news follows the collapse of a planned 100-date joint world tour featuring the onetime Bauhaus frontman and Brendan Perry, which left the former Dead Can Dance member complaining on his message board that Murphy “has too many albeit mysterious health issues to deal with and, to be honest, he’s a sandwich short of a picnic.”

While Murphy toured extensively last year and appeared at some of the final Nine Inch Nails concerts, a planned February webcast was canceled “due to poor health.” Murphy has, however, posted a bit of new music: He sings, along with Leigh Nash, on “Crumbs and Broken Shells,” a song by Sarah Fimm for the Songs for Haiti project. Hear it here.
