Gary Numan playing ‘Pleasure Principle’ on 16-date North American tour this fall

Gary Numan

Electro-pop icon Gary Numan today announced plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his solo debut The Pleasure Principle this fall with a 16-date North American tour that will include nightly performances of the 1979 album in its entirety as well as selections from his in-the-works Splinter record.

The tour opens Oct. 17 in Orlando, Fla., and runs across the U.S., hitting a lone Canadian date on Oct. 24 in Toronto before wrapping up with a pair of Los Angeles concerts on Nov. 3 and 4 (see full dates below). The dates mark Numan’s first American trek since 2006, and follow the volcano-forced cancellation of April concerts in Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as a slot at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.

Numan last year reissued The Pleasure Principle — his classic first post-Tubeway Army solo album — in two- and three-disc expanded editions, filled with a bevy of bonus demos and live tracks. Upon its original release, the album reached No. 1 in the U.K. and bore the smash hit “Cars,” which even cracked the Top 10 on the U.S. singles chart.

For the North American tour, Numan will be offering VIP packages at each show. For $125, fans will receive a general-admission ticket, a meet-and-greet and photo with Numan, a signed copy of the “Gary Numan’s Micromusic” DVD, a Pleasure Principle Tour 2010 T-shirt and a VIP laminate. Those packages can be ordered here.

  1. Oh man! I love the Pleasure Principle! I will have to try and make my way to the Metro in Chicago!

  2. Oof. I can recall planning on seeing Gary ay the Club at Firestone on his US Exile tour back in the 90s when I still lived in Orlando (shudder). I was looking forward to the show. It’s a nice club. Too bad the promoter decided to pull the carpet from under Numan’s feet at the last second and shuffled him off to the much smaller and less prestigious Sapphire Supper Club down the street that the promoter ran instead. To say that Gary was peeved would be an understatement. And the “Suffer Club,” as I called it, was super intimate enough to know that Gary’s thoughts were indeed black that night.

When I saw he’d be at Atlanta’s Masquerade it seemed like I should make the trip seeing as that’s but a four hour drive from my current, undisclosed location. But truth be told, I was never a fan of “The Pleasure Principle.” And the time and expense of the trip (including a subsequent stayover in Atlanta) dissuades me from attending. Now if he were playing “Dance” or “The Fury…”

  3. Is Gary Numan bringing Battle Circus as support? They were supposed to open for this west coast shows and they got canceled because of the Volcano. I have started listening to them non stop. Hope he takes them.

  4. I’ll be one of those fortunate blokes holding a VIP ticket for one of the two Los Angeles shows at the end of the tour. Looking forward to a great set, and finally getting the chance to meet one of the most influential figures in my musical career.

  5. Ed Porter

I am holding a VIP ticket for the Chicago show. I am so excited! I had the honor of seeing Numan in Pasadena California back in 1982. I cannot wait to meet Gary!

  6. Armand Lotman

I have seem Gary Numan 3 times, once at Perkins Palace Pasadena 1982, Washington D.C. 2001, and in Kansas City, MO in 2006. I have been a big fan since 1979. If you never had the chance to see him perform, take my word you won’t be disappointed. I am in the Navy and stationed in Dallas, Texas and as you all know, not much out of the ordinary happens music wise here, so I will not be able to see him again.

  7. I HOPE GARY DOES A “TELEKON” TOUR. THAT IS BY FAR, MY FAVORITE AND ONE OF HIS BEST ALBUMS TO DATE!

  8. Got back from the show last night and it was amazing! The opening acts were pretty boring, but Gary put on a great show!
