The Vaselines unveil new album ‘Sex With An X,’ offer download of ‘I Hate the ’80s’

The Vaselines, circa 2009

Reunited Scottish indie-pop faves The Vaselines today announced they’ll release a new album called Sex With An X — only their second ever, after 1989’s Dum-Dum — in September, and are previewing it with a free download of the track “I Hate the ’80s.” Plus, they’ll mount a 10-date tour of the U.K. this fall.

Due out on Sub Pop on Sept. 13 in the U.K. and Sept. 14 in North America on CD, vinyl and digital, the 12-track album is being teased with the fuzzed-out “I Hate the ’80s,” which the band is offering as a free download (below) in exchange for your e-mail address. The record also closes with “Exit the Vaselines,” a play on the title of last year’s Sub Pop compilation Enter the Vaselines (see full tracklist below).

To support the album, the band — featuring founders Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee — will embark on a 10-date U.K. tour beginning Sept. 15 in Edinburgh and wrapping up Sept. 24 in Glasgow (see full tour dates below).

The Vaselines reunited in 2008, playing their first-ever U.S. concerts. Last year, Sub Pop released Enter the Vaselines, an expanded reissue of the 1992 comp The Way of the Vaselines that features the band’s two EPs (Son of a Gun and Dying for It) and, at the time, only full album (Dum-Dum), plus a second disc of demos, unreleased tracks and live cuts recorded in the U.K. 1986 and 1988.
