Having spent the better part of the last month touring their native Australia, pop-rock powerhouse Hoodoo Gurus will venture overseas in late September and to play a run of shows in Spain, France and the U.K., followed by a brief seven-city tour of the United States in October.
The dozen-plus European and American shows come in support of Purity of Essence, the band’s ninth studio album, and second since reuniting in 2003. Released this past spring, the 16-track disc was co-produced by Charles Fisher, who handled production on the Gurus’ Mars Needs Guitars!
The band — which has five more Australian dates on tap, mostly over the next week — is slated to play three Spanish festivals in September, followed by a trio of French dates and a lone U.K. concert at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Oct. 3. After that, the Gurus hit the U.S. for concerts in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles (see full tour dates below).
As for additional dates, frontman Dave Faulkner notes on the band’s Facebook page that the Gurus are “sniffing around for (another) show in the L.A. area” on Sept. 16, but that “all the other dates are set in stone.” Also, a planned Brazilian tour this fall was canceled by promoters, Faulkner writes, because the release of Purity of Essence has been delayed there; the band is looking at rescheduling the trek in February.
