Modern English’s original lineup reunites for short North American tour this summer

Modern English

The founding members of British post-punk/New Wave act Modern English — forever immortalized by their 1982 hit single “I Melt With You” — are reuniting for the first time since the mid-’80s to tour North America this summer in support of the band’s just-released album Soundtrack.

So far, the band — original members Robbie Grey (vocals), Gary McDowell (guitar), Mick Conroy (bass) and Stephen Walker (keyboards), plus longtime guitarist Steven Walker and drummer Ric Chandler — has announced six North American concerts in July (see dates below), while promising “more to come in September,” including shows in Europe.

Led by Grey since 1979, Modern English last month released Soundtrack, its first new album since 1996’s Everything’s Mad — although the reunited lineup doesn’t play on the new record; of the members touring this summer, only Grey and Steven Walker perform on the 11-track disc. The band also just issued 1986’s Stop Start on CD for the first time ever.

  1. I saw them play in the states at Widener University on that tour I think that year in 1986, does anyone know when they played there I forget?
