Tears for Fears, 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World'

The A.V. Club — the entertainment arm of The Onion — today launched a new weekly web video series called “Undercover: 25 Bands, 25 Cover Songs, 1 Small Room,” in which groups stop by the publication’s offices, pick a cover song off their list and crank out the tune.

First up: cover-happy rockers Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, who chose Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” which, incidentally, was released as a single exactly 25 years go this Thursday. Other songs up for grabs include Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence,” The Smiths’ “A Rush and  Push and the Land is Ours,” The Wedding Present’s “My Favourite Dress,” The Cure’s “In Between Days,” The Replacements’ “I Will Dare” and R.E.M.’s “Driver 8.” New videos will be posted every Tuesday.
