Morrissey reissuing ‘Everyday Is Like Sunday’ single with rare ‘November the Second’ mix

Morrissey, 'Everyday is Like Sunday'

Next month’s 20th anniversary reissue of Morrissey’s landmark Bona Drag compilation will be accompanied by the re-release of “Everyday Is Like Sunday” with a new set of B-sides — including the much-coveted “November the Second,” a long-unreleased alternate mix of “November Spawned a Monster.”

A sharp-eyed reader at the Morrissey-solo.com forums found the listing for the single — to be released on CD and two different 7-inches — on EMI Music’s UK and Ireland catalog page. The singles are due out Sept. 27, a week before the expanded edition of 1990’s Bona Drag, a reissue compiled “with Morrissey’s full cooperation” that will feature six previously unreleased tracks.

Originally released in 1988 as the second single off Viva Hate, the new “Everyday Is Like Sunday” singles include a 2010 remaster of the song; live versions recorded June 9, 1988, on “Top of the Pops” and June 8, 2007, at the Hollywood Bowl; plus a live version of “Trash” that is labeled as being recorded at California’s Irvine Meadows in 1991, but, as fans rightly point out, Morrissey didn’t play that venue in ’91 (more likely it was the June 1, 1991, concert at Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, Calif.).

The real prize, though, will be the official release of “November the Second,” a mix Moz himself has been reputed to hate; it was briefly listed for release on a bonus disc of rarities intended for 1997’s Suedehead: The Best of Morrissey that ultimately was scrubbed. A track purported to be “November the Second” leaked onto the web in 2006.

UPDATE 8/11/10: Tracklist amended per news release posted at True-to-you.net and new cover art posted below, courtesy of RecordStore.co.uk, which is giving away 200 signed Morrissey prints to fans who pre-order the entire bundle.
