Video: Peter Gabriel re-records ‘Digging in the Dirt’ for upcoming orchestral album

Fans of Peter Gabriel won’t have to wait another eight years for a new album: The singer plans to follow up this year’s long-in-the-works Scratch Your Back — his disc of orchestral cover versions of some of his favorite songs — next year with another orchestral album, this time featuring new takes on his own songs.

In a video update posted on his official site last week — and seen above — Gabriel shows a clip of his “New Blood” orchestra recording a new version of Us classic “Digging in the Dirt” at George Martin’s famed AIR Studios. An update posted earlier this summer, and seen below, features a short clip of the musicians recording “Blood of Eden.”

In the newly posted clip, Gabriel says he’s recording “orchestral versions of my material,” and that, “We hope to be done later in the year so that it’ll probably be out, with any luck, early next year.” The arrangements, Gabriel says, are similar to those he debuted on this year’s orchestral tour in support of Scratch My Back.
