Video: U2 debuts new songs ‘Glastonbury,’ ‘North Star,’ ‘Return of the Stingray Guitar’

With Bono’s back injury apparently behind him, U2’s huge 360° Tour roared back to life in Turin, Italy, tonight, with the band treating fans to a fresh intro and two new songs — “North Star” and “Glastonbury” — as well as resurrected ’90s cuts “Miss Sarajevo” and “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me.”

The first show of U2’s second European leg opened with a lengthy, guitar-heavy instrumental jam called “Return of the Stingray Guitar,” and also included the two new songs the band rehearsed in Turin this week (see full setlist below). Above, watch the pro-shot footage of part of “Stingray Guitar” and “Beautiful Day” that U2.com posted this evening, and below, you’ll find fan-shot clips of the rocker “Glastonbury” and the acoustic ballad “North Star,” as well as the complete “Stingray Guitar.”

According to fan site U2gigs.com, tonight was the first time U2 debuted an unreleased song in concert in nine years; the band played a still-unreleased track called either “We Love You” or “I Love You” on Aug. 6, 2001, in Antwerp, Belgium. And the last time U2 played two unreleased songs? Their drunken and heavily bootlegged appearance on Ireland’s “TV Gaga” on Jan. 30, 1986, when they played the never-to-be-heard-again “Womanfish” and the then-yet-to-be-released “Trip Through Your Wires.”

Tonight also marked the first performance of Passengers track “Miss Sarajevo” in nearly four years, and the first appearance of the “Batman Forever” soundtrack cut “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me” since the end of the PopMart Tour in 1998.

  1. I really like the pre-show music… sounds familiar… what it was? ;)

  2. The “Hold Me, Thrill Me” clip is very Zoo TV…and pretty badass. I’m intrigued for the first time in a decade.

  3. Richard Edwards

Thanks for posting the videos. I was bummed out when Bono’s back injury canceled the Soldier Field Chicago Concerts. Now have to wait a full year to see these songs, but nice to see Bono back on stage.
