Video: Paul Westerberg plays baseball stadium for ’40 Nights of Rock & Roll’ documentary

The makers of the upcoming music documentary “40 Nights of Rock & Roll” managed to drag ex-Replacements leader Paul Westerberg out of semi-seclusion last week to play some songs and talk rock at Minneapolis’ Target Field — and here’s a brief video teaser to prove it.

Filmmakers Steve LaBate and Scott Sloan are in the midst of a 40-day road trip across the country during which they’ll watch 40 concerts and interview 40 bands in an attempt to answer the question, “What is the current state of rock ‘n’ roll in America?”

For the Minneapolis stop, Westerberg — who hasn’t performed much since jamming a screwdriver through his hand a few years back — chatted about music and baseball, and played two songs inside the Twins’ dugout: a new track with a line about “dangerous boys of rock ‘n’ roll” and “Time Flies Tomorrow” off 1996’s Eventually.
