Simple Minds

With a new best-of set due sometime early next year, Simple Minds on Monday announced plans for a unique summer trek across Great Britain: the seven-date “Greatest Hits U.K. Forest Tour,” which is exactly what it sounds like — a “series of dates in spectacular woodlands locations.”

The tour, part of the U.K.’s Forestry Commission Live Music series, opens June 10 at the Bedgebury National Pinetum & Forest near Kent and wraps up on July 3 at Delamere Forest near Cheshire (see full dates below). According to the band’s website, “Money generated by Forestry Commission Live Music ticket sales is spent directly on the nation’s woodlands, benefiting everything from butterflies to mountain bikers.”

Of the dates, frontman Jim Kerr said, “We’ve never done the forest gigs before so we are really looking forward to performing in such beautiful places.”

Earlier this fall, Simple Minds hit the studio to record a batch of new tracks — including a newly completed version of New Gold Dream-era castoff “In Every Heaven” — that are earmarked for both “an extensive compilation” due out in early 2011 and what eventually will become the band’s 16th studio album.
