Public Image Ltd. cancels German tour over ‘production scheduling problems’

Public Image Ltd., circa 2009

The reconstituted Public Image Ltd. today canceled the entire mid-August German leg of its ongoing reunion tour over “production scheduling problems,” and said it has no plans to rebook the six scrapped concerts.

John Lydon and his cohorts had been scheduled to play six German cities between Aug. 15 and 22; refunds are now available to ticketholders at the place of purchase. Could this be retaliation for Berlin fans cheering Pearl Jam’s cover of “Public Image” this week? Or is “production scheduling problems” just another euphemism for “low ticket sales”?

Regardless, for more refund information, visit PiLOfficial.com.

PiL is still slated to play a short U.K. run and a number of festival dates in July, August and September, including a newly announced slot at the Heineken Music Conference Festival in Tel Aviv, Israel — a booking that’s already prompting calls for Lydon to follow in the footsteps of the Pixies and Elvis Costello and cancel.
