The Godfathers to play 25th anniversary concert in London, plot full U.K. tour

The Godfathers, circa 2008

Revived Brit rockers The Godfathers will play London this June on the exact date of their first gig in 1985, in addition to an extensive, just-announced 25th anniversary U.K tour set for late April and May and a string of festival dates.

The band, which debuted its first new songs in 15 years at its St. Valentine’s Day Massacre concert last month, will perform at London’s historic 100 Club on June 17, exactly 25 years to the day after its live debut — when the group was still called The Sid Presley Experience — at London’s Embassy Club.

Frontman Peter Coyne writes on the Godfathers’ MySpace blog:

“If you’d told me in 1985 that I would still be singing with The Godfathers in the year 2010, I would have said you’re insane!! Along with making some great music & the buzz of being in a band, one of the major factors for me in forming The Sid Presley Experience with Chris (Coyne) & Del (Bartle) all those years ago was to avoid work! And that turned into the longest, at times hardest, but most pleasurable job I’ve ever had.”

The Godfathers also have begun rolling out dates on their 25th anniversary tour, including a run of U.K. concerts to follow a previously announced April 16 gig supporting The Alarm in Manchester, as well as festival dates in England, Spain, The Netherlands and Germany. The band’s March 14 appearance in London, however, is off, since the event — a Haiti benefit concert — has been canceled by its organizers.
