The Godfathers set rare U.S. concerts in New York, New Jersey, Chicago in February

Chris and Peter Coyne of The Godfathers

While an official announcement is forthcoming, The Godfathers are planning at least a short U.S. tour in February, a long-anticipated trek that will bring the reunited U.K. rockers’ annual St. Valentine’s Day Massacre concert to America for only the second time in the band’s history.

Clubs in New York City, Chicago and Hoboken, N.J., have put Godfathers concerts on sale already (see dates below), although it’s not clear if that’s the entirety of the band’s first trip across the pond in two years. In 2009, the Godfathers scrapped most of a planned eight-date U.S. tour, blaming the global economic crisis.

The one show, however, the band still played was the first-ever U.S. installment of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, held in Chicago — the group’s first American concert in 20 years. This year, the traditional Valentine’s Day gig was set in London, and next year, it’s booked at Santos Party House in Manhattan.

The Godfathers this fall released Shot Live at the 100 Club, a live CD/DVD document of the band’s 25th anniversary concert last summer. The group also has been working on the follow-up to 1995’s Afterlife, expected out early in 2011.

  1. Saw them in Chicago in 2009. Not bad but their day has gone. I love these guys, though. Funny that you show Chris Coyne in the photo. He was not allowed in the country last time due to the dreaded issues.

  2. Loved their shows in the 80’s in chicago. My fear seeing them now would be that it would spoil that image of greatness.

  3. It unfortunately might.

  4. Saw them in Manchester earlier in the year. Wish I hadn’t. Not the original line-up any more, and with only one guitar the magic has gone. With a single, static gargantuan guitarist all the old energy was missing. Wish I had kept my memories of the original lineup intact :(
