Meat Puppets return with ‘Lollipop’ in April

Meat Puppets, circa 2011

Reunited SST Records vets Meat Puppets today announced they will release their 13th studio album, dubbed Lollipop, on April 12 on hard-rock imprint Megaforce Records. Recorded in Austin, the 12-song album (see tracklist below) is the band’s first since 2009’s Sewn Together. The band — founding members Cris and Curt Kirkwood, plus new drummer Shandon Sahm, son of Doug Sahm — is scheduled to perform 1985’s Up on the Sun at the Animal Collective-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties in Minehead, U.K., in May.

  1. I was lucky enough to see these guys back in their heyday- two or three times around II and Up on the Sun, a couple more times after the release of Huevos. They always put on a good show. I’m psyched to discover they are still kicking around.

I have been lucky enough to see The Meat Puppets six times since they got back together with Cris Kirkwood, and I have gotta say that they have never sounded better. Rise to Your Knees, the first album they put out after having got back together was pretty good. But to be honest not really up to the level that Curt Kirkwood is usually known for. They then came back with Sewn Together, their second release since getting back together and it to me is among the best music that the Puppets have ever put out. I have had the opportunity to Meet Cris, Curt, and Ted their former drummer and now Shandon. They are very deserving of more of an audience then they have been. I think all they need is some good management putting the Puppets in the right venues and getting the word out better that they are not only back but are better then ever. They need to play the Conan show and others to get more exposure. There are still a lot of people that have no idea that they are even still together and that sucks. Do yourself a favor and go check them out next time they are out playing some shows. I cannot wait for Lollipop to come out. My expectations are that this will be another great album.

  3. looking forward to seeing them in amsterdam with the dandies, going to be a great show and really can not wait to hear this album!!! i hope they come back better and stronger, meat puppets amsterdam is ready for you!!!
