Pixies’ ‘Minotaur’ box set earns Grammy nomination for best packaging design

Pixies, 'Minotaur: Deluxe Edition'

A year after Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Elvis Costello, David Byrne and Brian Eno, and Ministry all scored Grammy nods, ’80s college-rock veterans were nearly shut out in tonight’s nominations, with only the Pixies’ hefty box set Minotaur scoring a nod for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package.

The work of art directors Vaughan Oliver and Jeff Anderson on the smaller “Deluxe Edition” set — not the massive “Limited Edition” box with the phallic graffiti — will go up against The White Stripes’ Under Great White Northern Lights limited-edition box set and several various artists packages. The Grammys will be awarded Feb. 13.
