Roxy Music reunites on Bryan Ferry ‘Olympia’ album, plays summer festivals, U.K. arenas

Bryan Ferry

Crooner Bryan Ferry enlisted a star-studded cast — including Roxy Music bandmates Brian Eno, Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay — for this fall’s Olympia, his first album of new material in eight years and his first recorded collaboration with those ex-bandmates since 1973’s For Your Pleasure.

The on-again, off-again Roxy Music — sans Eno, but with original drummer Paul Thompson — is in the midst of playing European and Japanese festivals this summer, and today announced the “For Your Pleasure” U.K. arena tour, its first in a decade, set for early 2011 and designed to commemorate the band’s 40th anniversary (see dates below).

Rumors surfaced a few years ago that the reunited Roxy Music finally would record a follow-up to 1982’s Avalon, but that, instead, appears to have turned at least in part into Ferry’s new solo album. The disc, due Oct. 26, also includes appearances by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, Gary “Mani” Mounfield of The Stone Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea and Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, among many others.

The album — which also will be released in a 2CD/1DVD set with a bonus remix CD and behind-the-scenes DVD — will be preceded Aug. 10 by the single “You Can Dance,” which already is a club hit in Europe. You can hear a mix of that track below, as well as see a studio montage Ferry put together for the new record.

UPDATE: Here’s the video for “You Can Dance.”

  1. now THIS i could get into. nice.

  2. Why are Roxy not playing Ireland ?
We’ve got two class arenas the Odessy in Belfast and Dublins O2 arena. It would be fantastic if Vivaq la Roxy made Ireland part of their world.

  3. Kory Blythe

Are there any plans for them to play in the US in the future as well?

  4. Guns Ablazing

Terry, Hopefully you didn’t miss Electric Picnic?

  5. Are there any plans for a Canadian Tour, specifically Vancouver? Have been a huge fan since the 70’s and would LOVE to see them live! Hoping…..
