Milestones: Robyn Hitchcock is 58 today; watch the Egyptians on 2Hip4TV in 1988

Today is Robyn Hitchcock’s birthday — he’s 58 — and to mark the occasion, we dug up a pair of rare clips on YouTube featuring The Egyptians performing on something called “2Hip4TV” in 1988. According to Wikipedia, this was “a variety show aimed at children” that aired on NBC in 1988, was hosted by Colin Quinn and Ahmet Zappa and was “set in a bowling alley.” Above, you can see Hitchcock & Co. performing Fegmania! track “I’m Only You,” and below, they do “Unsettled,” off the then-new Globe of Frogs — both freshly transferred from Betamax.

See more live Robyn Hitchcock after the jump…

I saw Robyn 5 yrs ago in Adelaide Australia. Amazing show when he was touring the first Venus 3 album. Only 200 people at The Gov, some of whome were there for Pete Buck only (big shame). Robyn was hilarious and he played most of my faves – BLISS!! Robyn, please come back and play for us again…
