The long-in-the-works documentary about The Replacements and their rabid fans — a film dubbed, appropriately, “Color Me Obsessed” — finally is finished and will make its world premiere later this month at the Gasparilla International Film Festival in Tampa, Fla.
Directed by Gorman Bechard and the product of more than 140 interviews, the Kickstarter-funded film is billed as “the potentially true story of the most influential, always drunk, self-destructive, and yet frighteningly brilliant rock band of all time as told through the eyes of their fans, followers and fellow musicians.”
Among those interviewed for the doc: Grant Hart and Greg Norton of Hüsker Dü, Tommy Ramone, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, Jesse Malin, the Goo Goo Dolls and more.
The filmmakers announced Thursday that “Color Me Obsessed” will be screened to the public for the first time on March 26 at the Florida-based film festival. Its only other announced showing is April 2 at the Wisconsin Film Festival in Madison, Wis.

That poster art makes me NOT want to see this. Ugh.
Just got back from the first screening. It’s good. I had my reservations but it flows very well.
Basically, it covers some nuts and bolts about the band and it’s history. It covers what “music people” THINK about the band. And it covers what fans FEEL about band. (That was my favorite part.)
There were a few “cinematic” things I would have done differently. Uninspired camera work, a few ugly edits. Nothing too serious. Much like the Ranmones doc “End of the Century.”
