Video: The Smiths’ ‘A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours’ covered by Coheed & Cambria

For the latest installment of the A.V. Club’s weekly web series “Undercover: 25 Bands, 25 Cover Songs, 1 Small Room,” prog-metal outfit Coheed & Cambria stripped down to an acoustic duo and performed a surprisingly tender cover of The Smiths’ late-period track “A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours,” which opens the band’s 1987s swan song, Strangeways, Here We Come.

The series already has seen Ted Leo and the Pharmacists cover Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” Maritime tackle Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” and The Wedding Present deliver a fuzzed-out take on The Rolling Stones classic “19th Nervous Breakdown.” Still on the A.V. Club’s list of songs to be covered: The Wedding Present’s “My Favourite Dress,” The Cure’s “In Between Days,” The Replacements’ “I Will Dare” and R.E.M.’s “Driver 8.”

Note: The A.V. Club’s videos take forever to load. Hit play, then wait. A while.
