Lloyd Cole makes ‘Writers Retreat!’ video, sets ‘Broken Record’ fall tour of Europe

Former Commotions leader Lloyd Cole next week will release his first full-band album in a decade, Broken Record, a rootsy collection that’s preceded by lead-off single “Writers Retreat!” and its accompanying music video, shown above. Fans who helped fund Cole’s recording sessions already have received their copies, but the album officially is released Sept. 10 in Europe by German label Tapete Records and in the U.S. via LloydCole.com (sample the album’s tracks here).

Cole also has set a 29-date fall European tour with his Small Ensemble bluegrass trio — featuring Mark Schwaber on acoustic guitar and mandolin, and Matt Cullen on banjo and acoustic guitar — that opens Oct. 14 in Porto, Portugal, and runs through Nov. 20 in Gothenburg, Sweden. As for further touring plans, on his website, Cole writes that “U.S. and Australia/NZ 2011, I expect. I know Australia is penciled for March/April.”
