INXS announces 25-date North American tour this summer in support of ‘Original Sin’

INXS, circa 2011

The surviving members of INXS — accompanied, presumably, by frontman/game show winner J.D. Fortune — will mount a 25-date tour of North America this summer in support of the Australian rockers’ recently released Original Sin collection of re-recorded greatest hits.

The tour, announced Tuesday night, opens July 3 in Brockville, Ontario, and includes six more Canadian dates before INXS crosses into the U.S. beginning July 17 in Washington state.  From there, the band plays 17 more U.S. shows, wrapping up Aug. 14 in Atlanta — although additional dates are promised. At least 11 of those U.S. shows will be opened by Berlin, according to that band’s website (see dates below).

Last fall, INXS released Original Sin, featuring re-recordings of the band’s classics with new vocals by the likes of Ben Harper, Rob Thomas, Tricky and even occasional frontman Fortune filling in for the late Michael Hutchence (more details here).

As for who will handle vocals on tour, INXS hasn’t said — and although Fortune has been singing with the band lately, he’s conspicuously absent in the band’s new press shot.

  1. Maybe since doing the vocals on the remake of “Don’t Change”, Andrew Farriss and Kirk Pengilly will handle vocals on this tour?

  2. Please. Stop. We beg you. You are no longer INXS. As much as you try and try, it will never happen. Let us keep our memories, please. Follow the lead of the Foo Fighters and evolve into something new and fresh.

I would love to see INXS with Berlin but i think it’s really untasteful without the original sinner Michael H. up there.

  4. JD Fortune! lol. didn’t they ditch him just after the show? I thought I heard that somewhere. I agree with Craig, move along.

  5. INXS was Michael. Why do these guys continue to insult his memory?

  6. Looking handsome guys, but I agree – they need to move on. Just not the same without Michael. he can’t be replaced!

  7. not that i’ve ever been in a band but i can imagine it’s super hard to “be something else” because it’s comfortable and has tons of nostalgia (and makes $) but so many folks did great spinning off in another direction (BAD, PIL, etc etc). Maybe they’ll realize their potential and just dive in (out?)

come on INXS, don’t settle! you’ll just wash out in the end.

  8. I think not officially announcing who the lead singer will be makes it hard for them to sell tickets. I liked JD Fortune and the album they did with him was not bad. I wanted to see them do more years ago but they had a parting of ways. For them to be rerecording their own songs differently with different singers is in my opinion a waste of time and talent. They should be doing new music and touring with that. Letting JD go way back in 2005 after getting a good fresh start with new songs was a bad idea. Even if he was doing drugs INXS should have helped him get his life together, cleaned up and done new music. After all they were the rock-n-roll veterans and they could have really helped him which would have in turn helped INXS move on to better things. This half effort at a tour is so disappointing and I will not be buying the rerecorded stuff, I’ve got all the great originals in their original sin form w/Micheal.

  9. This doesn’t seem like anything new. It can be said that the songs are re-mastered on the album but touring now with jd it’s the same old same – same old! The band had been touring these same songs with the same singer jd since the tv competition show 2005 and jd sings the same way. Nothing new like on the current album. If they were going to tour the new Original Sin songs they should have planned ahead to at least have some of the singers that did them on tour with them. JD is getting stale you know every move and note before he even does them. His t-shirt should say UNORIGINAL.

  10. JD Fortune did an amazing job on the tour. They did rearrange a number of the songs. And JD has gotten better as a singer. With that said I agree they made a huge mistake not following up Switch with another album of new material with JD. The Original Sin album I thought was interesting but its not tour worthy material. They needed some new songs.

Now they’ve dumped JD again and announced a new singer and say they will record a new album this year. Leaving many INXS fans who have grown to be huge fans of JD with a feeling that JD just wasn’t treated fairly (did the same happen to Jon Stevens during his shorter stint? though at least he was established already). Now INXS and their new singer talk of respecting Michael, as did JD. Problem is INXS had no choice regarding Michael. INXS did have a choice regarding JD and they should at least not ignore his 6 years in the various press releases and conferences – at a minimum they should thank him. I also think it would help his solo album if a couple of them did guest appearances on his solo work. Kirk P. or Jon F. seem like they would be a perfect candidates fro this mission to help a family member. jdfortune448.com has some of his solo stuff he’s working on – he has talent.
