Video: Joe Jackson & The Roots play ‘Steppin’ Out’ on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’

Piano-tinkling New Wave singer-songwriter Joe Jackson dropped by “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” last night to promote his just-released Live Music album by playing his 1982 crossover hit “Steppin’ Out.” The performance found Jackson backed by house band The Roots, and together they put a new spin on the Night and Day classic.     I used to love this song as a kid. It was kinda butchered here.

    Joe’s and Questlove’s playing after the last verse of the song until the end turned this into a slamming set, aside from the vocals!!! You could feel the electricity coming out of the tv when you watched it the night of the show.

    Joe is the best. That backup band should have left him alone. Solo or with the right group of players, his music is high art.
