Synthpop vets Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark will follow up this past spring’s North American tour — the classic lineup’s first U.S. concerts since opening for Depeche Mode’s breakthrough Music for the Masses shows — with a return visit to the United States, Canada and Mexico this fall.
The reunited OMD — original members Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Martin Cooper and Malcolm Holmes — will open their tour Sept. 16 in Miami, and perform 20 more concerts across the U.S., including two New York City dates and a stop in British Columbia before wrapping up Oct. 15 in Mexico City (see full dates below).
The band is still supporting last year’s History of Modern, its first new album since 1996’s Universal and its first with its classic lineup since 1986’s The Pacific Age. Yet in a news release, the group’s reps note: “In cities where they performed this spring, OMD will be playing a slightly different set of songs, but will still include all the hits.”

I saw them first way back in like 85 or 86 when they opened for the Duran Duran side project, Power Station and fell in love. Saw them twice on this recent reunion tour and they were FANTASTIC and should not be missed if they’re coming to your town. FUN show with great songs.
Great duo/band, but to be honest, I don’t like their latest album that much. Probably because their earlier work was so much more “Innovative”, “History Of Modern” sounds a bit too “ordinary”. However, it’s good that they’re still together and making music. Their first five albums are still a great listen nowadays. “Architecture And Morality” and “Dazzle Ships” are my personal favorites.
I saw them this spring in San Diego, and it was amazing. So much more than 2 guys on synths, a full rock band! Will definitely see them again in October.
I would have to disagree with AL, History of Modern is brilliant, especially in the light of the band being apart for SO long not making music. I wouldn’t say OMD were my favorite band growing up, but I knew every song they played, and they blended the new with the old seamlessly. If you were a fan of synth pop or new wave in the 80s, do yourself a favor and GO SEE THIS SHOW.
one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. it’s very unfortunate though that they’re playing the SAME NIGHT as Erasure here in SF, so many of my friends (and myself) can’t go see them again. sucks.

HoM falls right in line with the uninspired commercial sounding songs that first popped up on Crush. OMD was my favorite band and the first 5 albums are quirky and haunted treasures. Crush onwards, you can keep, although there have been some B-sides or non single tracks here and there that show some of the old inventiveness.
I did see them when they came through Los Angeles for the HoM tour and it was fantastic as they played a lot of old material and only a few off HoM.
