New releases: R.E.M. ‘Lifes Rich Pageant,’ plus Dead Can Dance, Tones on Tail on vinyl

RELEASE: Lifes Rich Pageant: 25th Anniversary Edtion
BACKSTORY: The Athens, Ga., college-rock heroes this week reissue their classic 1986 album complete with a second disc of demos including early recordings of all 12 Lifes Rich Pageant tracks, plus several songs later recorded for subsequent releases (see full tracklist here).

ARTIST: Dead Can Dance
RELEASE: Box Set II
BACKSTORY: Vinyl 180 this week releases the second vinyl box from the the hard-to-classify 4AD band, featuring Within the Realm of a Dying Sun (1987) and The Serpent’s Egg (1988), already available separately, and the forthcoming vinyl reissues of Aion (1990) and DCD’s second Peel session.

ARTIST: Tones on Tail
RELEASE: Weird Pop
BACKSTORY: Beggars Archive this week releases a new double-vinyl best-of for the Bauhaus spinoff that includes “previously undiscovered rarities like the original (and better) version of ‘Performance,’ a never before released studio version of ‘Heartbreak Hotel’” and more. (See tracklist here).
