Thurston Moore: New ‘Circulation’ video, tour dates, streaming concert, Sonic Youth reissue

This week, Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore released a second music video off Demolished Thoughts, a Rose Mackey-directed clip for “Circulation” that Moore says captures the “ritualistic love energy” of the “free-spirit poet/artist girls of Northampton, Mass., who would explode and levitate into expressionistic transcendence whenever cool records would spin by local DJs.”

Moore also has a new slate of solo tour dates beginning with an appearance at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago today and running through August. He’s also joining Sonic Youth for a just-announced trip to South America in November; two dates have been announced so far, but more are expected. And, NPR today posted a full, hour-long streaming concert, recorded in May, that you can check out below.

Finally, in other Sonic Youth news, in addition to finally releasing the film “1991: The Year Punk Broke” on DVD in September, the band also is reissuing its Hits Are For Squares best-of on CD on Aug. 23. The compilation originally was sold exclusively through Starbucks, then was issued on vinyl last year for Record Store Day.

The absolute *worst* concert i attended was Sonic Youth 2 years ago. Mostly new songs, none of the classics. It was like watching a band that really didn’t care if they were there or not.

I walked out 3/4 of the way through.
