The Sisters of Mercy extend 30th anniversary tour with 15 more European dates this fall

The Sisters of Mercy’s relatively low-key 30th anniversary tour will end the year where it began 2011 — in Europe — with 15 more dates planned for November and December, although the band’s first-ever trip to Australia and New Zealand was scuttled after this week’s Soundwave Revolution touring festival fell apart.

Andrew EldritchDoktor Avalanche and the rest of the group are set to open the fall trek Nov. 11 in Dublin, then hit London before 13 more shows in mainland Europe, wrapping up Dec. 3 in The Netherlands. The run of anniversary shows follows an initial series of dates this past spring, and a number of festival appearances, including the Sisters’ first trip to Japan, over the summer.

This week, the band was to have made its inaugural trip to Australia as part of the Van Halen-headlined Soundwave Revolution touring festival. The tour was canceled, however, when a yet-to-be-announced co-headliner pulled out, organizers said. The band also canceled a planned New Zealand concert after the Austrlian tour collapsed.

As for what lies ahead, the Sisters of Mercy have confirmed at least one live date next year: an appearance at the Amphi Festival 2012 in Koln, Germany, on July 21.

The Sisters of Mercy tour dates:

  1. That’s wunnerful news for us Sisters fans, but what happened to the USA, Canada, etc., particularly New York? I’m assuming at this point that
Andrew and gang have given up totally on us, for whatever
reasons. That’s too bad, if so. I hope they decide to sneak
in some USA dates at least, and NY for my purposes, but at
this point the chances are slim, I imagine. I don’t get it,
even Peter Murphy is currently touring all over the USA and
Europe, and may hit Asian destinations as well. The Sisters
did come to NYC in 2008 but I couldn’t get to the show,
alas, so that at least was my own darned fault, but at least
it was good to know they at least made it here for a change.
