Howard Devoto to rejoin Buzzcocks for 2 ‘Back to Front’ concerts in U.K. next May

More than 30 years after leaving the band he co-founded, original frontman Howard Devoto will rejoin the Buzzcocks for part of the punk legends’ two “Back to Front” concerts in Manchester and London next May, shows that will feature three different lineups of the band performing music from their respective eras.

The concerts, May 25 at the O2 Apollo Manchester and May 26 at the O2 Academy Brixton in London, will feature the current band — original members Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle, plus recent additions Danny Farrant and Chris Remington — beginning the show. Then, Steve Garvey and John Maher will replace Remington and Farrant for a set of songs from that lineup’s classic 1978-79 era (such as “Ever Fallen in Love,” “What Do I Get,” etc.).

Finally, Devoto — who this year released his first Magazine album in 30 years — will join the Buzzcocks to perform the band’s 1977 debut four-song EP Spiral Scratch, the only record he appeared on, and, reportedly, associated songs from that period. According to the band, it will be Devoto’s first appearance with the Buzzcocks in more than 33 years.
