Hoodoo Gurus mark 30 years with new ‘Gold Watch’ best-of, ‘Dig It Up!’ concert series

Australian pop-rock powerhouse Hoodoo Gurus will celebrate its 30th anniversary this spring by releasing a new career-spanning best-of set and hosting “Dig It Up! The Hoodoo Gurus Invitational,” a series of four concerts in the band’s homeland featuring hand-picked guests such as Red Kross, The Fleshtones and The 5.6.7.8’s.

Out March 16 in Australia, Golden Watch: 20 Golden Greats opens with a brand-new single (“Use-By Date”), then proceeds through the band’s debut single (1982’s “Leilani”) and tracks off each of the group’s records, through 2010’s Purity of Essence. The set features college radio favorites “Come Anytime,” “What’s My Scene?” and “I Want You Back.”

Then, in April, the band will host concerts in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth, each featuring a different lineup with a mix of kindred-spirit contemporaries and current local acts. Other bands on the bill include Died Pretty, The Sonics and The Lovetones. And, at each of the four shows, the Hoodoo Gurus will perform their debut album, Stoneage Romeos, in its entirety.
