Morrissey scraps New Zealand concerts over ‘poor offers from local promoters’

Morrissey’s 2012 touring plans already include rare trips to South America and Japan in the coming months, but won’t extend to New Zealand after all, as the former Smiths frontman this week announced that “projected dates in New Zealand have once again been scrapped due to poor offers from local promoters.”

Last month, in first announcing his trip to Japan, Moz told fansite True To You — his preferred outlet for communicating to fans these days — that he was also planning concerts in Thailand, the Philippines and New Zealand. On Thursday, he again updated True To You with news of a rescheduled Brazilian concert (see dates below) along with word he won’t be playing New Zealand.

There’s been no mention since of any dates in Thailand or the Philippines.

Currently, Morrissey is slated to perform 11 concerts in South America, hitting Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Peru and Colombia in late February and March. Then he’s off to Japan for seven concerts there in April and early May, followed by a single show in South Korea.
