Squeeze adds post-Coachella concerts with English Beat, eyes June tour with B-52s

British pop masters Squeeze will take advantage of their booking at the newly expanded two-weekend Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival to book a short run of California dates around the fest this April, plus at least one East Coast concert later in the month with contemporaries Dave Wakeling and The English Beat.

While Squeeze hasn’t formally announced any of the shows, ticketing and venue websites confirm the band will play at least four California concerts — in San Diego, San Juan Capistrano, Napa and San Francisco — around Coachella, plus an April 27 date in Baltimore with the Beat. It’s not clear whether more shows will be added to the band’s April tour.

Squeeze last toured the U.S. in 2010 in support of its re-recorded hits disc, Spot the Difference.

UPDATE 2/24/12: Squeeze is now playing at least six East Coast dates with the Beat, and Chris Difford this morning tweeted, but appears to have now deleted, news that Squeeze also will tour the U.S. in June with The B-52s (“April US tour for Squeeze May UK tour for Diff June US for Squeeze with B52’s busy time in the dressing rooms of life”).

  1. I only saw Squeeze once opening for Fleetwood Mac (of all bands) in 1990 on the Mac’s “The Mask” tour. Both bands were excellent. I always have wanted to see Squeeze do their own gig. They are one of those bands that got past me in the 80’s. .
