The Cure headlining Reading, Leeds festivals

As had been rumored, The Cure was announced today as one of the headliners — along with Foo Fighters and Kasabian — of the U.K.’s massive Reading and Leeds festivals in late August, bringing the band’s total number of European summer festival appearances to 18

Robert Smith and Co. will play the twin fests the weekend of Aug. 24-26; both events are held simultaneously and feature identical lineups rotating across different days. The Cure will headline Reading on Aug. 24 and Leeds on Aug. 25.

The band’s summer touring schedule now opens May 26 with an appearance at Pinkpop in the Netherlands and runs through a Sept. 1 slot at the Electric Picnic in Ireland, with dates in Spain, Russia, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, France, Denmark, Italy, Portugal and Austria in between.

There’s still no word, however, as to whether the band will make good on Smith’s suggestions to audiences in New York and Los Angeles last fall that The Cure will return to the U.S. this year.

See thecure.com for ticket information on each festival.

  1. Perhaps if the US had more Festivals like there are in European countries we could see more of them over here.

  2. Somewhere (perhaps here) someone said that THE cURE are not a festival band. I have to agree.

  3. That was me, saw them at Oxegen back in 2004, huge walk-out halfway through their set.
