Video: The Jesus and Mary Chain play first shows in 4 years during brief tour of Texas

Their already short tour cut even shorter by last-minute visa trouble, The Jesus and Mary Chain performed their first concerts in four years this week with a three-date tour of Texas that included a club gig in Houston on Tuesday, a delayed set at 35 Denton on Wednesday and a late-night South By Southwest show in Austin on Thursday.

The brothers Reid had also planned a New Orleans show, but it was bumped to Sept. 5 by the same immigration troubles that delayed the band’s Denton show. No word yet if they’ll play more U.S. shows in September — but it’s not very likely they’d travel all the way here for a single show.

Full setlists seem hard to come by, but reviews of the shows in the Houston Press and via our friends at Old Waver show the band played well-known tracks such as “Head On,” “Taste of Cindy,” “Blues From a Gun,” “Reverence,” “Far Gone and Out,” “Sidewalking,” “Just Like Honey” and “Happy When It Rains,” plus lesser known tracks such as “Between Planets” and “All Things Must Pass,” the one new song the group has recorded since reconvening in 2007.
