The Cult, The Mission, Killing Joke team up for 5-date U.K. arena tour this September

With their first new album in five years, Choice of Weapon, coming out in May, The Cult this morning announced a five-date arena tour of the U.K. this September that’ll see the rockers enlisting a pair of freshly reunited contemporaries — The Mission and the original lineup of Killing Joke — to fill out the bill.

The tour opens Sept. 11 in Newcastle and hits Sheffield, Manchester and Birmingham before wrapping on Sept. 16 at London’s Wembley Arena; a pre-sale for the shows begins Thursday morning, with the general on-sale following on Friday morning via livenation.co.uk.

The Cult, still centered around Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, will release the 10-track Choice of Weapon on May 22. The record was co-produced by Sonic Temple veteran Bob Rock and is preceded by the rocker “Lucifer” — which is available here as a free MP3 download.

The Mission — featuring original members Wayne HusseySimon Hinkler and Craig Adams, plus new drummer Mike Kelly — reunited last year for the band’s 25th anniversary, and has continued to announced dates for 2012, including an upcoming trip to South America and Mexico.

And the original lineup of Killing Joke — Jaz Coleman, Kevin “Geordie” Walker, Martin “Youth” Glover and Paul Ferguson — will release the band’s 15th studio album, the aptly titled 2012, on April 2; the new record is preceded by the track “Rapture,” which you can stream here.

  2. that would be sick

  3. Back in ca. 1988, I would have started hyperventilating with happiness and would have booked a flight to London immediately. Well, those were the days. And also: I still had a little money then… ;-)
