The Cult announces 20-date North American tour with Against Me!, The Icarus Line

Three days after releasing Choice of Weapon — their first album in five years — next month, The Cult will embark on a 20-date North American tour, with punk band Against Me! and hard rockers The Icarus Line supporting most dates of what frontman Ian Astbury is promising will be “a very intense, high-energy tour.”

The trek opens May 25 in San Diego and will run through June 22 in Tempe, Ariz., hitting mostly American cities expect for an appearance at the Great Canadian Beaverfest in Windsor, Ontario.

In a press statement, Astbury says, “This is going to be a very intense, high-energy tour. “We are really looking forward to the time we spend on stage connected to our music and our audience.  That’s our purpose.” Due out May 22, Choice of Weapon is co-produced by Sonic Temple veteran Bob Rock and Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age).

In September, The Cult will play a 5-date U.K. arena tour with The Mission and Killing Joke.

  1. New album is the best one since Sonic Temple. Heard the whole thing and it’s great. I thought ‘The Cult'(1994) and ‘Born Into This’ were pretty lame efforts, as was ‘Ceremony’, but this one stands up to the rest of the catalouge.
