Ride’s 20th anniversary reissue of ‘Going Blank Again’ to feature 1992 concert on DVD

Seminal British shoegazers Ride — signed to Creation Records in the late ’80s — next month will release a 20th anniversary reissue of their sophomore album Going Blank Again that will packaged with the DVD debut of the 1992 VHS release “Going Blank Again: Live at Brixton Academy” featuring newly mixed and edited audio.

The CD/DVD set, which follows the double-disc 20th anniversary reissue of the band’s 1990 debut Nowhere, is initially being sold only through OxfordMusic.net, and likely will begin shipping to buyers in late May. The first 2,000 copies will be numbered, and 50 of these will be randomly selected to be signed by all four members of the band.

The new reissue will feature the 2001 remaster of Going Blank Again, including the four additional tracks — collected from accompanying EP releases — added at the time. The second disc will be the DVD or Ride’s March 27, 1992, performance at Brixton Academy in London, originally released on VHS in most of the world and Laserdisc in Japan.

According to a recent e-mail newsletter to fans, tracking down the video was no easy task:

“After quite a lengthy stint of detective work, we managed to track down the original digital master tape of the Brixton live show. And it looks great! So we asked Catherine Marks and John Catlin at Alan Moulder’s studio to mix the audio afresh from the 2″ master tapes of the gig. Catherine had worked under Alan’s watchful eye on the Roxy LA mixes and so we were really happy that she could find time to mix and edit the Brixton audio. Needless to say, it sounds truly wonderful and we’re really pleased to now finally have a Ride release on DVD.”

Anyone who pre-orders the 20th anniversary edition will receive free WAV or MP3 files of the DVD’s tracks. Plus, Ride will donate £1 from every sale to Friends Of The Earth Bee Cause.

  1. Thank the sweet heavens! I can finally retire this old worn out vhs of the Brixton show. It’s a shame we had to wait twenty years. Now for the Blu Ray. lol

    Just nabbed one. ;)

  3. One of the top five records of the 90’s.

    • Hmmm. Love this album! But I always thought this Brixton show was a sleeper and didn’t really capture the band’s energy on stage. Think I’ll stick with my VHS to DVD transfer on this one. Wish the album was newly remastered and maybe I would go for it…
