Stone Roses reunite in Warrington, U.K., for first concert in 16 years (SETLIST, VIDEO, PHOTOS)

The Stone Roses — Ian BrownJohn SquireGary “Mani” Mounfield and Alan “Reni” Wren — played their first concert in 16 years Wednesday, a free, 11-song warm-up show for fans crammed into the 1,100-capacity Parr Hall in Warrington, England.

The setlist, posted below via The Stone Roses Fansite, is comprised largely of songs from the band’s legendary 1989 self-titled debut. We’ve posted the first video to emerge above, and few more clips below. Fan accounts indicate security was actively trying to stop filming, and, so far, only a few, very short clips have emerged from the show.

The surprise concert was announced earlier the same day, with the Roses promising a “short set” for fans who lined up to get wristbands. The tickets were free, but those in line had to show proof of fandom in the form of a Roses CD cover, record sleeve, official T-shirt or a ticket to one of the band’s three giant outdoor homecoming shows in Manchester’s Heaton Park

Until Wednesday’s surprise gig, the Roses had been set to debut their reunion with shows June 8 and 9 at the 4,000-capacity Club Razzmatazz in Barcelona, followed by a June 12 date at the 5,500-capacity Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam.

The band then will plays Sweden, Denmark, Germany and France before staging the three Heaton Park concerts in late June and early July, with support from Primal ScreamLiam Gallagher’s Beady EyeThe Wailers and The Clash’s Mick Jones. After that, the band plays throughout Europe and Asia into late August. So far, no U.S. shows have been announced.
