The Smithereens touring U.S. this summer

The Smithereens — who released the aptly titled 2011, their first collection of new material in more than a decade, last year — will keep busy this on the road summer, criss-crossing the U.S. to play at least 15 concerts between June and September at a variety of clubs, theaters and a number of small-town festivals

The band — featuring original members Pat DiNizio, Jim Babjak and Dennis Diken, plus bassist Severo Jornacion, who replaced Mike Mesaros in 2006 — opens the run of dates this Saturday in Chester, Md., and will play throughout the summer, winding up the currently announced series of shows on Sept. 29 in Virginia Beach.
