New releases: The English Beat reissues, plus Joe Jackson, Ministry, The Flaming Lips

RELEASE: I Just Can’t Stop It, Wha’ppen?Special Beat Service
BACKSTORY:
 The U.S. box set and new best-of don’t arrive for a few more weeks, but Demon Music Group this week releases, in Europe, expanded 2CD/1DVD reissues of each of The Beat’s first three albums. Each features copious bonus material, including extended and dub mixes, Peel Session recording and live tracks (see tracklists here).

RELEASE: The Duke
BACKSTORY: The New Wave piano man this week tips his hat to jazz legend Duke Ellington with a new album featuring guest turns by the likes of Iggy PopThe Roots’ ?uestloveSteve Vai and Sharon Jones, among others. Tracks include “It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)” and “I’m Beginning to See the Light” (see tracklist here).

ARTIST : Ministry
RELEASE: With Sympathy
BACKSTORY:
 The long-awaited expanded reissue of the 1983 synthpop debut from Al Jourgensen and Co. apparently has been released, and is available this week in the U.S. as an import.  The new version includes three bonus tracks: “Work For Love” (Dub Version), “I Wanted to Tell Her” (Tongue-Tied Mix) and “A Walk in the Park.”

ARTIST : The Flaming Lips
RELEASE: The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends
BACKSTORY:  Originally released on limited-edition vinyl for Record Store Day this past April, the Lips’ have rounded up a string of collaborations, some already released on super-limited color vinyl EPs, featuring guest turns by the likes of Yoko Ono, Nick Cave, Bon Iver, Ke$ha, Prefuse 73, Jim James, Erykah Badu and more.

  2. Have we had any word on the format for the DVDs with the Beat discs – I’m assuming that they’re PAL and not NTSC, but do we know if they’re region coded or not?
